Position Overview

HR Administration and Execution, Compliance & Safety Management

  • Manages and oversees the Talent Acquisition process for all level of candidates: executive, exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Ensures the health and welfare benefit plans are updated and changes are communicated with employees annually.
  • Works with senior management to choose insurance brokers, ensuring the best option for the company and the employees.
  • Develops, administers, interprets, and maintains personnel policies, programs, and procedures in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Researches, develops and recommends employment policies; maintains and updates employee handbook.
  • Assures adherence to policies and procedures pertaining to human resources management.
  • Maintains employee files.
  • Directs safety meetings and initiatives with other management staff to track safety concerns and to ensure Central McGowan is complaint for OSHA inspections and other audits. Tracks accidents and investigates complaints as necessary.
  • Employee Relations – Resolves employee relations issues to include conflict resolution, harassment investigations, wage complaints, employee disputes, attendance issues and general questions.
  • Promptly investigates internal and external harassment claims, or disputes.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization. Oversees the completion of annual performance appraisals by the management staff.
  • Administers compensation program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
  • Ensure that company compensation program is competitive in the marketplace and consistent with company compensation philosophy.
  • Conducts and participates in wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate and competitive positioning.
  • Provide merger and acquisition support and personnel/policy integration into core business, as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

 

Leadership, Management & Accountability (LMA)

  • Drives and actively participates in company’s EOS management model, using Traction Tools to achieve goals.
  • Actively participates in establishing and reaching company goals, policies, and strategies.
  • Manages relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Provide leadership, direction, training, and growth opportunities for company and assigned staff.
  • Evaluate employees’ job performance and conformance to regulations and recommend appropriate personnel action.
  • Develops and implements departmental budget.
  • Provides workflow assessments and recommendations for improvement, as necessary.
  • Hires, manages and terminates staff in accordance with business plan and business partners.
  • Directs and oversees aspects of assigned department functions to ensure the timely and accurate production of department requirements.
  • Continuously seeks to improve departmental technology, quality, efficiency, and productivity standards.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff and others in the organization.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 – 8 years of human resources management experience, required.
  • HR Professional Certification (PHR/SPHR), highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

  • Founded in 1965 with the merger of McGowan Welding Supply in Little Falls, MN (est. 1947) and Central Welding Supply, a small supplier of equipment and gases in St. Cloud, MN.
  • Since 2011, we’ve grown from a 55-person, 2-location welding supply company to a nearly 140-person, 8-location, diversified business we are today.
  • In 2015, expanded to include custom automation and robotics, making us one of the only local distributors who is also an integrator.
  • In 2019, acquired Jason’s Beverage Carbonation Company, another successful family-owned CO2 distributor in St. Paul, MN, expanding our distribution area to include customers in Minnesota and parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
  • In 2021, acquired Fessler Carbonic Gas Company in Des Moines, IA, expanding our CO2 footprint to all of Iowa; and Metro Welding Supply in Minneapolis, MN to better serve customers the Minneapolis metro area and most recently Preferred Welder Sales out of Mankato expanding our Southern MN footprint.
